SLAYER Drummer To Guest On New APOCALYPTICA Album
November 12, 2004SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo will be guesting on the next APOCALYPTICA album on a song called "Betrayal". The track, which is described by APOCALYPTICA's Perttu Kivilaakso as a "really fast, thrash metal-influenced song," will mark the second time Lombardo has played on an APOCALYPTICA CD, having previously performed on their 2003 effort, "Reflections".
"Many bands have asked me to play on their records but I prefer groups who have some really original and even strange ideas," Lombardo told Finnish journalist Timo Isoaho. "APOCALYPTICA's concept is pretty unusual and I was flattered when Eicca (APOCALYPTICA) asked me to guest on this song."
Lombardo recorded the drum tracks for "Betrayal" at Finnvox studios in Helsinki when SLAYER's "Unholy Alliance" tour hit Finland in October.
"It was a great honor to get Dave to play on our next album as well," Eicca said. "Of course, he has a unique playing style and it fits perfectly in this song."
APOCALYPTICA and Lombardo have known each other since 1998 when Lombardo played the "Mandatory Suicide"/"South Of Heaven" medley with APOCALYPTICA at Holland's Headbanger's Heaven festival.
"We liked each other from the beginning and Dave told us to call him if we needed a drummer some day. So, here we are once again," Eicca laughed.
APOCALYPTICA's new studio album is tentatively scheduled for release in February.
